QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
Driveways
1. How often do I need to replenish the gravel on my driveway? Typically, gravel needs to be replaced every 4 or 5 years. However, this can be impacted by weather. For instance, if we are coming off of a particularly snowy winter that required your driveway to be plowed more than usual, you may need to replenish sooner. Conversely, if we have had a succession of dry winters, your gravel may last longer.
2. If my driveway is sloped, can I still have a gravel driveway? Yes, but you will need to pay close attention to the type of gravel you use. For instance, you would not choose a rounded gravel stone as it is more likely to roll down the slope. Instead, you would use crushed gravel that is more likely to stay in place.
3. How small is too small for gravel stones to be? Gravel stones should not be so small that they get caught in the treads of the tires of cars that drive over it, nor should they be so small that they get caught in the soles of shoes and are then dragged throughout the house.
4. Will I ever need to replace the pavers in my driveway? No! Pavers last a lifetime if they are installed correctly.
5. I have a water run-off issue and want to know if there are other options available to me other than gravel to handle the runoff? Yes! Permeable pavers provide an ideal solution for instances such as this. They are designed so that the water goes right through them and is sent back into the water table or is even stored for irrigation of the property. Another benefit is that Permeable pavers do not require other drainage piping and they do not go against total lot coverage on your
property.
