1. I don't like the brick around my existing fireplace. Can I cover the brick?
Yes, you can cover the existing brick using a manufactured or natural stone. To use natural stone veneer your floor structure must be able to support the additional weight. The average weight of natural stone is approximately 2,000 pounds per 30 square feet.

2. My painted fireplace brick looks terrible, how can I remove the paint?
Paint removers or sandblasting are both options. These methods can be messy and may not remove all the paint. They can also affect the surface of the brick if not used correctly. Another solution would be to cover the brick with a thin brick, manufactured or natural stone. The materials will certainly give your fireplace a new look.


3. I want to add stone veneer to the wall around my fireplace. What should I do?
Visit Gault's Show Room for ideas and consultation. Consider using a mason contractor to evaluate your project. They will consider weight requirements, materials and the installation process.


4. My house has a wooden chimney. Can I convert the chimney using either brick or stone?
Yes, you can use brick, manufactured or natural stone.


5. Can I install Belgian block in my fireplace instead of firebrick?
Yes, you will need to have at least 8" of solid masonry behind the Belgian block. Consult your building inspector or mason contractor for proper installation requirements.


6. How wide must a hearth be to comply with the fire code?
Twenty inches out from the edge of the firebox minimum is the accepted norm. However we recommend that you consult with your building inspector or mason contractor for proper installation requirements.
