QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
Patios, Terraces
1. I have an unattractive concrete slab as an entrance way. Can I cover it to make it more attractive?
Bluestone, pavers or natural stone flagging are a few options. The distance from the top of the slab to the bottom of the door will determine your choice. Bluestone is a popular choice if you only have 2" of space to work with.
2. What types of materials can I use to build a pool deck that won't get hot?
All materials, manufactured or natural, will have some heat characteristics. However, using lighter colors can help keep surfaces cooler.
3. My Bluestone patio is stained. What can I use to clean it?
It will depend on the type of stain. First try a mild detergent mixed with water and scrub the area with a bristle brush. For some stains you may need to use a mild solution of muriatic acid and water. Be careful using muriatic acid as it could damage the mortar and some surfaces. Use as directed and follow all precautions. Another alternative would be to remove and replace the stained piece of stone.
4. Which paver is better, brick or concrete?
Concrete pavers are considered to be more durable and should hold up a lot better. Brick pavers are more prone to algae and moss.
